Types of Voice Lessons

All lessons are catered to the goals and skill level of each student

Students AGE 6-11

Lessons for this age group are designed to encourage musical development through the exploration of the voice and learning the basics of ear training and music theory.

Intro to Musicianship: This course is designed for beginner students who are unfamiliar with reading sheet music and involves the study of both piano and voice. Students will learn about music theory and develop the ability to read sheet music through the study of piano. They will develop their voice through age-appropriate repertoire and ear training exercises. (30 0r 45 minutes)

Intro to Vocal Studies: This course is designed for beginner students who are studying another instrument, and who are familiar with reading sheet music. This course helps the students to integrate this knowledge with the study of the voice, as well as the development of vocal technique through age-appropriate repertoire and ear training exercises. (30 minutes)

Both of these courses require the student to have regular access to a piano or keyboard.


sTUDENTS aGEs 12-18

Vocal technique will be explored through vocal exploration and specific exercises geared towards vocal development.

Ear training exercises and music theory will be integrated with vocal technique training and work on repertoire. Dependent on the goals of the student, we can delve into these skills further.

Students will have the opportunity to explore repertoire in a variety of vocal styles, which can include classical, musical theater, popular music, and jazz.


adult students

Voice lessons for adult students vary greatly depending on the goals of each student. Here are some things we could explore:

  • Developing healthy vocal technique for performance in a variety of genres

  • Exploring musicianship through the study of the voice

  • Developing confidence in performance and music leadership skills

  • Gaining an understanding of your vocal instrument and how to use it in a healthy way

  • Studying classical music for further study

Lesson Length

Weekly lessons are recommended for all students

30 Minutes: Recommended for beginner students and those with shorter attention spans

45 Minutes: Recommended for intermediate students and beginners with longer attention spans

60 Minutes: Recommended for advanced students and intermediate students interested in adding a formal theory component

Lessons run from September until May. For specific dates, please see the contracts on the registration page.
